The handsome ones and the not so handsome ones... A pretty young woman traveling deserted areas all alone, without any self-defense tool, only to bump into men with swords... In other words, that she's leaving her safety of not getting robbed, or even worse, solely depending on the off-chance that the men she encounters happen to be "decent" ones... I call that reckless and side completely with her mother: if girl doesn't show enough sense to carry with her some a self-defense weapon of some kind, at least, when traveling through unfamiliar and scarcely frequented areas, then she doesn't deserve "independence", but rather being sent to a military school for women, till she learns basic some common sense about the requirements of women's personal safety, and/or some way of self-defense like martial arts, or... SOMETHING
