If you guys are looking for a person to blame it would be the FL’s grandfather and if you’re asking why, here’s the reason. Because of his greediness about status and whatnot, he decided to spread a rumor about the daughter of his enemy that is Cosette’s maternal family about her mother being infertile while still marrying the grand duke which is Kiera’s father, with this rumor he wants to make the grand duke divorce her and marrying him to her daughter which is Kiera’s mother. In the duke’s head which have nothing except duty and responsibility for f the kingdom without regarding about any of his relationship decided to believe this rumor and divorce her. After the divorce, the grandfather plan to marrying her daughter with the grand duke was successful but then he found out that Rowena(Cosette’s mother) was pregnant amd decided to kill her. The banishment wasn’t enough and now he wants to kill an innocent victim?! So on her last struggle on running away she suddenly got a miscarriage. Instead of giving up she decided to make a contract with a devil to be her last resort for revenge. So in conclusion it is Kiera’s grandfather that should be punish not the father. This is just my opinion though

Honestly I’m annoyed this trash didn’t suffer enough and like he is demon that he barely suffered only because he didn’t happen to be a flawless duke. At this point his actions are insulting. Like did he actually suffered?! And we have the stupid kiera that’s going to forget and forgive everything. It’s humiliating to read this. At least sovieshu or other characters regret what they did. This demon looks better in my eyes.

That is why it seemed almost impossible to him that Cossette was still alive with them. And because she is acting in a very problematic way, the grandfather becomes very defensive.
